At Lovelys we have been providing a bespoke picture framing service since our first shop opened in 1891 on Margate High Street. Today we offer a choice of over 500 mouldings, specialising in a wide range of custom framing services from our on-site workshop and shop located on Northdown Road, Cliftonville.
Our experienced, friendly team can offer help and creative advice with all your framing requests, guiding you through all the available options.
Customers are advised to book a one to one framing consultation with a member of the Lovelys team prior to visiting us.
A variety of styles and finishes are available, from traditional to contemporary wooden profiles, including swept frames, tray frames, box frames and aluminium mouldings. At Lovelys we offer a complete conservation framing service using the highest quality materials to ensure your artwork is protected whilst also preserving it for future generations.
A hand-finishing service is also available. Clients can choose from a variety of paint colours, stain finishes, waxes and profiles to complement and elevate their artwork.
All pictures are finished with acid free backing/tape and a hanging system appropriate to the size, weight and style of the frame.
We offer a wide range of colours in conservation and cotton museum boards as well as many creative styles of window mounting including deep bevel, oval, multi aperture, oversized (jumbo) and double/triple mounts.
Float Mounting & Shadow Float Mounting are popular choices for artwork with rough or deckle edges. For this method artwork is mounted on top of a backing board, showing all four edges of the paper, which can then be raised away from the mount board. For this type of mounting a spacer is required under the lip of the frame to distance the glass from the artwork. Spacers can also be used instead of a window mount to create a box frame, setting back the artwork from the glazing.
All conservation level mounting is reversible.
We have a comprehensive range of glazing options which offer different levels of protection for your artwork. Choices include standard 2mm & 3mm float glass, Anti Reflective glass, Conservation UV and Museum glass.
Acrylic glazing options are also available. Some artworks traditionally do not require glazing such as varnished oil paintings and acrylics.
Our team of framing advisors are on hand to discuss the glazing option that best suits your artwork.
We can frame a wide variety of textile and fabric pieces. Embroideries, cross-stitches and tapestries are laced and stretched over conservation level mountboard. Items such as silk scarves, rugs and clothing are held in place with invisible stitching, once again attaching to conservation level board. We advise making an appointment if a textile piece is more unusual or oversized.
We provide a creative framing service to preserve and beautifully display cherished items, memorabilia and all kinds of unusual objects! From Sport Shirts to Medals, Violins to Wedding Dresses, here at Lovelys we pride ourselves on our ability to frame almost anything! Working with each customers exact needs and specifications, we use an inventive approach when it comes to the designing and making these bespoke pieces.
Other framing services include canvas stretching, Drymounting, Heat Sealing, exhibition & corporate framing. We can frame high value artworks, larger pieces and unusual objects but these will need further discussion and preparation.
For these bespoke projects, customers are required to make an appointment with our framing team or contact us before bringing in any of the above specialist items.
We have specialised in the skilful art of picture restoration for over 100 years from our fully equipped studios. Old and damaged oil paintings are restored to their former splendour by removing discoloured varnish and dirt, repairing cracks or flaking in the paint as well as mending any tears in the canvas. Before any work is undertaken, we carefully examine all artworks to identify the nature and extent of the damage.
