All demos will take place at Kearns Hall, Minnis Road, Birchington unless otherwise stated.
Please bring your own lunch to all workshops.
MAY
ROSE COVERED DOORWAY in watercolour with Terry Harrison
Tuesday 18th May Beginners
This beautiful little doorway is ideal for beginners, learn lots of techniques including how to use masking fluid, and apply simple washes. There is no need to worry about the drawing as Terry will have prepared them all for you! Just come along and enjoy the painting!
Use of all materials on the day £35 each. 10am – 4pm
Vibrant Poppies with Fiona Peart - Wednesday 19th May
Beginners/Intermediate Workshop using Watercolour
and water-soluble pencils (optional)
Enjoy letting watercolour work for you and develop a looser style, by applying water-soluble pencils then dropping in vibrant watercolour. The line drawing will be supplied for you to use, but your drawing will be with soluble pencils so that any outlines soften and vanish.
Use of all materials on the day £35 each. 10am – 4pm
JUNE
Wednesday 2nd June
Drawing step by step with artist and tutor Fiona Nethercleft
Have you always wanted to draw but not sure where to start? Fiona will guide you through all the basics of drawing with demonstrations and exercises including looking at size and proportion and still-life compositions. In the afternoon there will be an introduction to drawing landscapes as well as the chance to draw on location if the weather is nice.
£25 per person. Please bring your own materials (list available)

Calligraphy
“Illuminated Letters with Gold Leaf” with Julia Baxter
Wednesday 16th June
We are planning an Illumination calligraphy workshop with Julia Baxter. “Illuminated Letters with Gold Leaf”.
An introduction to the process of decorating and applying gold leaf to an initial letter as found in old manuscripts. This involves some traditonal with some more modern techniques and materials. The workshop concentrates on letter design which is complimentary to, and part of the art of calligraphy. Suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience of calligraphy.
£35 per person. Includes £15 of materials for you to keep. 10am-3pm

Charlie will show you how with just a few brushes and colours how much you can accomplish. Charlie will give you lots of tips and tricks and with his informal and friendly approach to teaching you will achieve great results and above all have fun! All materials needed for the workshops are provided. Please bring lunch.

Watercolour Flower Portraits Workshop with

We are delighted to welcome Billy back. Billy paints exquisite flowers in watercolour and in this workshop Billy will guide you on all drawing and painting techniques, colour mixing and composition to complete your painting. Billy’s expert tuition is inspirational for anyone who wants to develop their flower painting skills whether or not they have any previous experience.

AUGUST
Dragon and Fairy Workshop with Paul Bryn Davies
Wednesday 11th August
Explore your creative side and stretch your imagination with this workshop on mythical dragons and fairies. Don’t miss this fantastic workshop with Paul Bryn Davies where he will be sketching and painting fairies and dragons with a magical quality appealing to all ages. Materials included.
£35 for Adults. £20 for children over 10 years of age. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 10am – 4pm.
SEPTEMBER
OAST HOUSE in watercolour

Thursday 2nd September Intermediates/Advanced
This typical Kentish view is an ideal subject to really get your artistic teeth into. Learn how to deal with textures and detail; we will cover how to paint foliage and trees and how to master masking fluid. Don’t worry about the drawing as I have prepared them all for you, just come along and enjoy the painting.

OCTOBER
Roy Lang – Painting Sea and Sky in Oils
12th October - Sunset Seascape “Time to Reflect”
13th October - “Storm Surge”
Roy will show you how to capture the power and majesty of the sea. Learn how the sea and sky interact in nature and how to portray their moods.
12th October - Sunset Seascape “Time to Reflect” £40 for day
The colours in this painting convey a feeling of relaxation and contemplation at the end of the day focusing on waves, breakers, foam patterns, wet rocks and sand.
13th October - “Storm Surge” £40 for day
A rough sea covering breakers, foam bursts, rock spills and use of light, shadow and composition.
Some experience in oils is required. All use of materials is included. 10am – 4pm.
NOVEMBER
“Derwent Water”- Painting Water in Watercolour with Joe Francis Dowden
Thursday 4th November
“Water forms the medium of watercolour; pigment flows naturally through it, and when the water dries that movement is frozen, perfectly capturing the movement of light on water.” We are pleased to be welcoming Joe back who is well know for his inspiring watercolour paintings of landscapes and coastal scenes. During this workshop discover how to paint light and water to achieve effective, realistic and dramatic results.

Cheryl Culver PS RBA – 'Tracks and Patterns in the Landscape'
Beginners/Intermediate Wednesday 17 November
During this workshop you will be exploring the deeper patterns within landscapes under the guidance of Cheryl Culver. These tracks, corn rolls, footpaths are all a part of the geometry and all can be used to give depth and a sense of mystery.
£35 per person. Please bring any dry medium pencil, pastels, conte or pastel pencils and the normal surface you like to work on. Be prepared to get dirty! 10am – 4pm.
