An exhibition of paintings and prints by humorous artist Kim Haskins, daughter of artist John Haskins, featuring her well known and much loved cats, dogs and chickens.
Kim Haskins has been painting humorous animals since childhood, and become a professional artist in 2009 after a couple of successful exhibitions in the south east of England. In 2010 Kim was signed by renowned fine art publishers Washington Green who have since helped her cat paintings gain national and international recognition.
All of Kim's work will be available for purchase during the exhibition.
Kim will be present at the Gallery on the opening Saturday from 11am to 3pm.

New to the Gallery - Maddi Gold Dreamland Inspired Chair
My name is Maddi Gold and I am currently studying A2 level Design and Technology. For my coursework the task was to work with a client to create a product using their brief and input my own ideas to produce a fully functioning product. My idea for the gallery was to create a bespoke piece of furniture, asCaroline wanted seating for the downstairs gallery as well as storage the idea of storage within a chair was the ideal solution.
The initial inspiration for this product was art-deco, which then became the art-deco building of the Dreamland cinema after research into art-deco buildings and cinemas. As the relation of art-deco and the regeneration of the Dreamland linked perfectly, especially for my product being in Lovelys Gallery in the local area, I found myself designing a product to meet my client’s requirements as well as having a feature of Dreamland to advertise and raise awareness of the regeneration taking place in Margate.
The photo which gave me the groundings for my design was taken on Dreamland cinema’s opening night in 1935. The word ‘Kinema’ is seen on the advertisement block, meaning ‘motion’ in Greek, came about in 1899 deriving from the word cinematography. In later years it changed to the Latin spelling of ‘Cinema’ that we use today.

Lovelys are looking for contemporary and traditional artists to submit artwork for their first Open Art Exhibition to be held later this year in the Edge exhibition space at their premises in Northdown Road, Cliftonville. Submissions for this exhibition are open to the following categories – original paintings, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, photography, glass and printmaking (linocuts, woods cuts, etchings, screen prints etc.).
The Open Art Exhibition will start on 25th August and will continue to 22nd September. Application forms can be requested now by emailing caroline@lovelysgallery.co.uk. The deadline for applications is 14th July. Artists are welcome to submit up to 5 pieces for consideration. The exhibition is open to any UK resident regardless of artistic qualifications.

At Lovelys we are keen to exhibit a wide range of styles and mediums - we sell originals, prints, sculptures, ceramics and glass works. We are always happy to consider new artists to exhibit and promote at the gallery. Our 120 years of experience and expertise ensure a strong relationship with our artists offering support, feedback, direction, and new ideas.
In May 2011 Lovelys launched a new contemporary exhibition space – “Edge”, upstairs in their gallery in Northdown Road, Cliftonville. This creates a new 'edge' to Lovelys, working alongside their continuing commitment to showcasing traditional and contemporary art.
Edge will offer a continually changing collection of diverse artwork from Thanet and East Kent based professional artists who are on the periphery of national and international recognition. Edge will also focus attention on the exhibitors creative intentions,encouraging a thought provoking experience.
